No go.
- Brekky: A little cooked farina w/1 tbsp. maple syrup and rice milk; coffee w/soymilk; 1 slice of home-baked honey-bran bread (YUM); a few apple slices, banana slices, strawberries
- Lunch: Went to Farm House (to return their opossum trap; which worked. We caught a creature last night, all right, the one that’s been eating our home-grown compost, but it bit through the metal wire cage gate, bent back the metal grating, and escaped!!!). Had 2 slices of my home-baked bread, 3 eggs (laid by our hens, over-medium, although the chef prepared them over easy, so I left the yolks), a lettuce salad w/ a few slices of avocado & tomato (and my downfall, a couple of tbsp. Ranch dressing), coffee w/ soymilk.
- Dinner: Tabbouleh (home-made), hummus (home-made, even cooked the garbanzo beans the day before!), falafel (mix), a slice of naan (Michael couldn’t find pita bread). A glass (or 2) of beer.
The big news today was that I finished making grapefruit marmalade from grapefruits from our backyard. We’ll see how it turned out tomorrow night–specifically, if it gelled or not.

Took a pleasant walk off Ross Station Road (near the Sebatopol Berry Farm) in the afternoon w/my hubby instead. Plus, baked a Honey Bran whole wheat sandwich loaf and started making a batch of grapefruit marmalade from the windfall from our grapefruit tree out back. It’s a 2-day process!
- Brekky: Organic corn flakes w/yummy organic rice milk; coffee w/soymilk, 1/2 banana, 1/2 apple, a few organic strawberries
- Lunch: At Mom’s Pie in Sebastopol, off Hwy. 116: Tuna salad sandwich on multi-grain bread w/ a little macaroni salad, coffee w/soymilk (had my own little bit w/me!)
- Dinner: Tomato-eggplant sauce (which we made fresh from our home-grown tomatoes this fall and froze for eating in mid-winter) on spaghetti squash (home-grown, it stores really well!) and brown rice spaghetti; steamed chard, glass of red wine. 1/2 slice of home-baked Honey Bran bread (I baked it for tomorrow’s breakfast, but had to taste it fresh out of the oven!)

- Brekky: Organic corn flakes w/rice milk; coffee w/soymilk; 1/2 banana; 1/2 apple, 4 organic strawberries
- Lunch: At Farm House with hubby, Michael: Small fruit salad (ate cantelope & 1 strawberry), whole wheat toast w/shortening + 1 tsp. of Seedless blackberry jam, coffee w/soymilk (brought my own in a little container), 2 eggs over medium (although they prepared them over easy, so ate whites only), one of the eggs was from one of our hens. Big News Today: We got a rooster from one of our neighbors. It’s a cross between a Rhode Island Red and God-knows-what (he’s got ear-muff looking things next to his ears). Maybe we’ll have chicks this year…
- Dinner: This is what I spent my time preparing (instead of going to yoga): Roasted root vegetables (purchased from Tierra Vegetables mostly): salsify, celeriac, beets, parsnips, potatoes, carrots, onions, Jerusalem artichoke with kale salad and tomato-fennel and spelt soup. YUM.

Missed it. Obtained rice straw and mulched onion bed (Bed 7 of No Worries Farm) and cooked healthy dinner (see Diet entry for today’s date) instead.

Would have gone to the 6:30PM class today, after weeding Bed 7 for 2-1/2 hours, but got a phone call from my hubby at 5:45 PM, just as I was headed out the door that he was waiting for me in a cafe (thinking I had taken the 4:30PM class), and that he’d like to meet for dinner. So, no go today! Oh, well.

- Brekky: Organic corn flakes (sweetened w/grape juice) w/rice milk (to avert dairy); coffee w/soymilk (homemade); 1/2 sliced banana; 1/2 sliced apple, 4 organic strawberries
- Lunch: At Farm House again: This time had 2 eggs, one laid by our hens; had them “over medium” for a change, with a small fruit salad (thus averting the dreaded Ranch dressing!) which consisted of banana, strawberry, and cantelope; 2 slices of whole wheat toast (w/butter or maragarine, I’m afraid, forgot to ask for it “dry”); coffee w/my own soymilk I brought with me
- Dinner: Out at Hana Sushi in Sebastopol: Miso soup, 1/2 serving edamame; salad of lettuce and fruit (w/ a few dabs of honey/mustard dressing); 4 pieces of maguro (tuna) sushi (on white rice); a few tbsp. of wakame (seaweed) salad; green tea
- 1 squash (butternut or kabocha)
- 1/2 package of Eden Organic Kamut & Quinoa Twisted Pair Pasta
- 1 tbsp. olive oil
- 1/2 medium onion, chopped
- 2 minced garlic cloves
- 1-1/2 cups of vegetable broth (preferably home-made)
- 2 cups of kale (chopped, after removing stems)
- Some blanched almonds
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 400 F. Bake whole squash about an hour. Cut in half, remove seeds and skin. Cook pasta, drain and set aside. Heat oil in large skillet, saute onion and garlic a few minutes, add kale, cover, saute until kale is wilted and soft. Cut up 1 cup of the squash into cubes, and set aside. Puree the rest of the squash with the vegetable broth in a blender. Toss the squash puree, cubed squash, and kale mixture with the pasta in a large bowl. To serve, sprinkle with almonds, and use salt & pepper to taste. Frightfully healthy!

Today, I managed to avoid all dairy, except for little bits of cheese on my lunch salad.
- Brekky: Scottish oatmeal w/ home-made soymilk and 1 tbsp. or 2 of maple syrup; coffee w/ same soymilk; 1/2 apple, 1/2 sliced banana, 4 sliced organic strawberries
- Lunch: At Farm House: 2 poached eggs of which only 1 was laid by our hens (it was Helen’s egg, I could tell by the shape and color), the other egg was pasteurized (apparently they have to do that now, and the Farm House owner, Michael, has to pay extra for this!) w/ tabasco sauce; 2 slices whole wheat toast w/butter or margarine (I don’t know which; next time I’ll try to remember to ask for the toast served dry) + 2 tsp. of Seedless Blackberry Jam; luncheon salad of lettuce, a few slices of avocado, a few tomato slices, 2-3 tbsp. of ranch dressing (my downfall, I’ll try to ask for just a few wedges of lemon sometime in the future, instead); and, of course, several mugs of coffee w/ soymilk (this time I remembered to bring a little container of my own).
- Dinner: Prepared Kamut and Quinoa noodles with Kabocha Squash (home-grown!), kale (also home-grown, and picked by me today), and almonds with dinner salad of red-leaf lettuce, spinach (picked from our garden and grown from seed!), a few slices of carrot, celery, and tomato with a squeeze of lemon juice for dressing; a glass of white wine.
