Well, it’s been over 1-1/2 years since my last entry. Whew. Maybe if I start recording what I eat daily, my eating habits might improve (maybe, maybe not). Anyway, here goes (if I can even remember!)

Brekky: Let’s see, I think hubby prepared me some oatmeal. Probably ate 1/2 of it, with brown sugar and yellow raisins on top with non-fat milk. Had at least 2 mugs of Taylor Maid “El Imposible” (from El Salvador) coffee, with non-fat milk. Had 1 slice of white French bread toast, with butter and luscious, homemade blackberry jam. Some fruit: home-grown strawberries, store-bought blueberries, a few bites of home-grown pears, some store-bought banana slices.  Two slices of home-made apple strudel, using the Granny Smith apples from our tree.

Lunch: My usual BLT at Farm House, on toasted whole wheat bread. This comes with crispy bacon (I usually trim the fat), tomatoes, lettuce, and some mayonnaise. Had it with a side of fruit (although I wound up bringing half the fruit home), and oodles of coffee w/non-dairy creamers (maybe 3). Tsk, tsk.

Snack:  Given the intensity of my day, had a slab of Tillamook cheddar cheese, some corn tortilla chips with salsa, and a couple of small glasses (amounting to 1/2 bottle) of beer.

Dinner: Went out to Hang Ah in Santa Rosa.  Had white rice, sauteed veggies, the bun of a steamed pork bun, a section of onion pancake, and lots of tea.

  • Brekky: Hubby made wonderful fruit cup (strawberries, mango, blueberries, bananas); farina w/1 tbsp. flaxseed powder w/ maple syrup and rice milk; slice of whole wheat toast w/teensy bit of whipped butter and homemade grapefruit marmalade. Coffee w/soymilk.
  • Lunch: Leftover Pasta Norma (Sicilian w/eggplant, tomatoes, and ricotta insalata cheese); salad of red leaf lettuce, celery, and radishes w/lemon, white pepper, and salt. Dessert: 3-4 of my home-baked oatmeal raisin walnut cookies w/coffee and soymilk. Oh. and had 2 little glasses of white wine, which is why I needed the coffee (to clear my head to write a paper).
  • Dinner: Vegetarian chili w/tofu over rice; chard sauteed in olive oil, all prepared by wonderful hubby.

Today was a banner day:  Went bicycle riding with hubby: We did a 20.8 mile loop trip, startin in Tiburon, at a regional park’s parking lot. We bicycles a few miles to “downtown” Tiburon, took the ferry to San Francisco. Disembarked at Fisherman’s Wharf, rode to Fort Mason, and thence thru the Marina to Crissy Field. I had not been there since the marshland restoration. It’s fantastic. So was the head-wind we encountered. Surprisingly, over the Golden Gate Bridge, it wasn’t so windy. Spectacular, as always, with white light reflecting off the ocean. Down to Sausalito thru Fort Baker, then along the boathouses and along Highway 101 to Richardson Bay. Only the freeway has a bridge over Richardson Bay, so we had to bike its entire perimeter to get back to Tiburon. What a spectacularly beautiful (although exhausting) ride. We are in training for our Vienna to Budapest ride along the Danube this fall.

  • Brekky: Hubby prepared wonderful farina. Had it w/~1 tbsp. flaxseed powder, maple syrup, and rice milk. Had slice of home-made honey bran toast w/hint of whipped butter and wonderful homemade grapefruit marmalade. Fruit consisted of Manila mango, blueberries, strawberries and banana slices. Yum. Coffee w/nonfat cow’s milk, since hadn’t had a chance to make home-made organic soymilk yet.  Managed to concoct some later in the day today, though!
  • 2nd Brekky: After doing interminable chores, had hunger pangs by about 11AM, so had another slice of toast, this time w/peanut butter & honey, and some coffee w/nonfat milk. Also a couple of bites of chocolate.
  • Lunch: Had leftover (hubby’s) minestrone soup. A bit thick for my taste. Also had a bit of salad with that (red leaf lettuce, carrot slices, radish slices, celery) YUK. I hate salad. Used lemon juice, white pepper, and salt for salad dressing.
  • Dinner: Another hugely filling Indian meal: yesterday’s leftover pumpkin curry and lentil dal, supplemented by freshly made saag (spiced spinach dish) and hubby’s cauliflower/red pepper/mustard seed concoction w/turmeric. YUM. Also had heated plain naan, and a bunch of condiments: raisins, nuts, chutney. Also, indulged in a little Italian beer.

Yes, it’s awful. I’ve been out of circulation for nearly a month. But, am starting up again. That’s what counts! Did over 2 hours’ worth of walking today: the 2.8 mile walk in our neighborhood (it was a chilly morning) and an hour on the treadmill at 3.5 mph. That’s not counting our after-dinner walk with Michael (feeding fresh green weeds to the donkeys) and my walking around town today, running errands.

Unbelievable. A trip to Philadelphia for Passover and then a cold and several weeks’ long sinusitis has thrown me entirely off track for nearly a month.  I’m struggling to climb back on.  I’m no longer a vegan (surprise, surprise), but am taking it way easier on the dairy (read butter) and eggs. So, here’s today’s food consumption, not idealy, but, hey, gotta get back into the swing of even remembering, let alone recording, what I ate today:

  • Brekky: Hubby prepared wonderful farina. Had it with 2 tbsp flaxseed powder, rice milk, and maple syrup. Had coffee w/regular dairy non-fat milk, since I haven’t yet had a chance to make some more home-made soymilk. Had a slice of honey bran toast (straight from the freezer) w/a teensy bit of whipped butter and homemade, absolutely wonderful grapefruit marmalade. I can no longer stand to eat store bought jams, they’re basically colored sugar as far as my tastebuds can tell. Also had a nice fruit complement: kiwi, blueberries, strawberries, and banana slices.
  • 2nd brekky: Since I was having our Honda Insight serviced, walked to Farm House and had a smallish waffle w/banana & strawberry slices on top & maple syrup; coffee w/non-dairy creamer. Took the 2nd, huge waffle home,  split it into its 4 quadrants, and froze each separately for someone to eat later.
  • late “lunch”: Still running errands at 3PM, had a pick-me-up at Grateful Bagel: an “everything” bagel, toasted, w/~1 tbsp. cream cheese, coffee, & 2% milk.
  • Dinner: Prepared a scrumptious Indian meal: butternut squash curry, brown lentil daal, and lemon rice pullao w/cashews. Served w/hot garlic naan, nonfat yogurt, and Major Grey’s chutney. Downed it w/Negro Modelo beer. Yum.
